The Kehler Realty Story

Kehler Realty TeamCareers today often involve employment with a number of different companies and many times a complete change in industry type.  It is rare to find business professionals who have 10, 20 or even 30 years with one company. Well how about 47 years! This is exactly how long local Transcona Realtor Art Kehler has been servicing his clients.
Upon meeting Art, it does not take long to see why he has achieved success and longevity in the real estate industry. Simply put, Art is a very kind and caring business professional and when you’re making one of the most important decisions of your lifetime, you want someone you can trust. When asked what he enjoys most about being a realtor, Art replied “I truly enjoy meeting and working with people. I enjoy the challenge of helping individuals and families; I consider it a privilege assisting clients in finding a property they can call home.”
Born and raised west of Morris, Manitoba Art moved to Winnipeg in 1966 with aspirations of becoming a RCMP Officer. However in 1967 an opportunity was presented and Art joined a small real estate firm. Two year later Art became a partner in Checker Board Realty based in Transcona. Most importantly, in 1969 Art married his beautiful bride Susie and in 1971 the young couple chose Transcona as the community to purchase their first home. Art and Susie appreciated the small town charm of Transcona and viewed the community as the perfect location to start their life together.
Art and his wife Susie have three children all of whom are married and live in Transcona. Art and Susie are proud grandparents to 9 wonderful grandchildren. The Kehler family is without a doubt part of Transcona’s strong history and bright future.
After a number of years as a realtor Art recognized the potential of the industry and was convinced this was the ca- reer he was passionate about. In 1972 Art opened Kehler Realty and subsequently purchased property at 132 Regent Ave. West.
Over the many years of service Kehler Realty has offered employment to a number of real estate agents and all contributed to the success of the company. To those in the real estate community Art is known for his integrity, honesty and his willingness to offer guidance and assistance whenever needed. “I feel it is important to the industry and to help others whenever you can” comments Kehler. Art has been known to counsel less experienced agents without benefiting him, “I see the bigger picture and doing the right thing” Art humbly offers.
Above all, Kehler Realty is committed to its customers. Art shares “I like meeting all kinds of wonderful people at different stages and circumstances of their life. I truly enjoy helping people whether during happy or difficult times. I love the challenge and the reward in serving a satisfied customer.” It is evident that above all else, integrity, honesty and trust are the foundations that produced the years of success Kehler Realty has enjoyed. The business is built on referrals and repeat customers; strong honest service from a solid company.
Now Art does not accomplish all this success on his own, today he is proud to include by his side his son Jeremy Kehler. Jeremy joined the team in 2002 after receiving his Realtor license and in 2008 completed his Broker’s license. You can certainly say Jeremy was born into the company and at a young age Jeremy fondly recalls memories of helping his father, “Before the time of pagers and cell phones, my dad wanted his customers to speak to someone rather than a machine. When my parents were unable to be home, my siblings and I would answer the phone for him. ‘Kehler Realty, how can I help you’ a young Kehler would recite. Jeremy chuckles “Prior to that my dad would always be sure to carry extra coins in his pocket to make phone calls. He would stop at phone booths to retrieve messages from the office or home.” As he shares stories of the early years it is evident that Jeremy is very proud of his father’s success and is honoured to carry on that tradition by his side today.
Art and Susie’s daughter Shaylene also worked as a Realtor and Broker by her father’s side until 2004 when Shaylene left to raise her growing family. Shaylene’s husband Robert Unger saw his wife work in realty over the years and watching his father-in-law and brother-in-law achieve success he was intrigued. As a University of Manitoba graduate from the Asper School of Business with a major in marketing, Robert was a natural sales person. “I worked in marketing and owned a graphics business and saw the real estate industry up close through my wife and her family.  In 2011 I was thrilled to join the Kehler team,” shares Unger.
Anchoring the team is Gus Miller, a long-time Transcona resident and former owner of Millers School of Music. “After 30 years in the music business, I decided to go into Real Estate and as a close friend of Art’s I joined the firm in 1999,” states Gus. Gus serves his customers with honesty, care and a strong work ethic that each member of the team is known for.
As with all industry, the onset of technical advances has brought many changes to real estate over the years. Art and Gus recall the early days when real estate reps would deliver the listings everyday. In the 70’s the industry transitioned to a once a month catalogue and with the 80’s the electric dial up registry. Then came computer and with advances to date, information and expectations within the industry are immediate. The team at Kehler Realty realize the benefits of technology however they also recognize a loss of personal service. Therefore they have a ‘no pager’ policy and when you call Kehler Realty you will not speak to an answering service rep or a pager service, you speak to one of the dedicated Realtors.
When Art and his team were asked to comment on the current real estate landscape of the community they replied that Transcona residents are loyal to Transcona. They want a choice locally they can transition to no matter what stage or circumstances they experience. Transcona families have deep roots here and want to stay where they were raised to now raise their families. The Kehler team is happy to see diverse residential development growing in Transcona. This is good news for their customers and the community. From established communities to new builds to condos, the customer has a nice choice in Transcona.
When asked what the future holds for Kehler Realty, Art glances at his son and son-in-law and smiles, “I see a strong future as Kehler Realty continues to offer our clients quality service with integrity and honesty.” As Art closes in on almost 50 years as a Realtor he certainly has built a lasting and respected business. Finally, Art shares “Being a great agent is not always working a sale or getting a listing, it is about doing right by our clients.”
